This year, the Big Island Press Club is using the GiveButter platform to host an online silent auction to raise funds for its scholarship fund.
Awesome staycations, delicious meals, and fun experiences are among the prizes donated by generous businesses and individuals that you can bid on!
In addition to all of the great items being auctioned off now, guests of the Torch of Light Luncheon can also participate in-person through this platform on three additional special prizes: staycation offers from Rosewood's Kona Village, the Four Seasons Hualalai, and the Auberge Mauna Lani Resort.
To learn more, register for the auction, and bid for great items, follow this link:

The entire auction process ends at 1:30 pm during the Torch of Light luncheon and people will be notified by the system if they’re a winner. We will then work with you to fulfill your prize.
Some insights on fees, taxes, and donation records:
The Give Butter Platform and Credit Card companies charge a small processing fee for any charge made for a winning bid. The Big Island Press Club will pay this fee if you’d like, but you will have the option to pay the processing fee as part of the registration process. This way, 100% of your contribution goes directly to our scholarship fund if you opt to pay this fee.
While we are a registered non-profit, Hawaii still taxes charity auction prizes the standard GE tax. The Big Island Press Club will pay this tax for you, but you are more than welcome to make a separate payment to us to cover the sales tax on any item.
When you win an auction item for the value of the item or less, it isn’t considered a tax-deductible donation to the Big Island Press Club. However, if your winning bid is greater than what the prize is worth, we will issue you a donation tax receipt to reflect that difference which should be tax-deductible for you. As always, contact your tax professional for questions on the deductibility of participating in a charity auction.
