Thank you for your interest in supporting the Big Island Press Club Scholarship Foundation!
Each year, the Foundation, a 501(c)(3) group, awards thousands of dollars to college students pursuing journalism and related fields in higher education.
Awards include the include the Robert C. Miller Memorial Scholarship, the Bill Arballo Scholarship, the Marcia Reynolds Memorial Scholarship, the Yukino Fukubori Memorial Scholarship, the Jack Markey Memorial Scholarship and the Hugh Clark Memorial Scholarship. We welcome donations of all sizes; if you wish to make a large contribution to set up an ongoing scholarship in your name/honors, please reach out to us to discuss how we can help facilitate your wish.
Past Big Island Press Club scholarship winners include: Lara Sonoda, assistant vice president and commercial banking officer for First Hawaiian Bank and freelance writer; Ilihia Gionson of Hiehie Communications, former aide to the late Mayor Billy Kenoi; Peter Sur, former Hawaii Tribune-Herald reporter now employed by the county’s Department of Environmental Management; Elisa Yadao, retired HMSA senior vice president and former television news reporter; John Burnett, Hawaii Tribune-Herald reporter and former radio news reporter; and Chris Loos, retired Hawaii Police Department spokeswoman and Hawaii Tribune-Herald and radio news reporter.
